The BRP PDrive primary clutch was released to combat the noise and is indeed very quiet. However, we have seen accelerated wear on several components and a couple of part designs that have been causing the secondary clutch to spin, and customers experience hard shifting. Here is the detailed list of issues in order of when we discovered them.
- PROBLEM: Governor cup spring support hangs up and will not allow the moveable sheave to move freely, causing intermittent partial engagement at idle. FIX: KWI installed their new spring support design, eliminating any interference or sticking in this area.
- PROBLEM: The stop sleeve on the main shaft hangs up and will not allow the moveable sheave to move freely, causing intermittent partial engagement at idle. FIX: KWI developed a new design stop sleeve that eliminates interference and sticking in this area.
- PROBLEM: Moveable sheave composite cone rollers wear and get loose quickly, causing misalignment. They will not allow moveable sheave to move freely, causing intermittent partial engagement at idle. FIX: In our experience, the rollers and pins must be inspected and replaced every 300-800 miles.
- PROBLEM: Governor cup aluminum roller surfaces wear grooves and hang up, causing misalignment. They will not allow the moveable sheave to move freely, causing intermittent partial engagement at idle. FIX: Replace the governor cup with a new OEM part. In our experience, the governor cup must be inspected and replaced every 1000-2000 miles.
