If you have a car that's having shifting issues after installing the float mod and a short drive. Here's what to check for-
- Make sure the secondary clutch shaft (gearbox countershaft) is completely free of any rust or contaminants, especially close to the gearbox shaft seal. Anything on the shaft may cause the float mod to hang up.
- Ensure there's plenty of anti-seize or moly grease on the gearbox shaft and splines per the instructions prior to installing the clutch.
- Ensure the float spring is installed on the shaft before the secondary clutch is installed
- After sliding the clutch on the shaft make sure it freely moves in to the stop and returns out with spring pressure on its own easily. If not you will need to find out why its not moving freely- reference #1,2 or 3 above.
- Install the bolt with factory washer, shims and float spacer as described in the instructions. Snug down the bolt and ensure the clutch floats back and forth as in #4 above.
- Verify alignment of the belt per the float instructions and adjust now. Snug down the bolt and ensure the clutch floats back and forth as in #4 above.
- Torque the secondary bolt down and again ensure the clutch floats back and forth as in #4 above. If it does not the factory washer may be hitting the belt removal tool area theads on some clutches. Rotate the bolt and washer and reattempt until the clutch floats freely.
